When you are in a state of gratitude, have you ever noticed what’s not in the emotional mix?

Fear.

Fear based emotions tend to dissipate rather quickly when we experience a sense of thankfulness, making gratitude a key hack to living your best life.

When we find ourselves postured towards gratitude, it actually soothes our parasympathetic nervous system, allowing us to move away from feelings of fear and anxiety.  In fact, it is virtually impossible for gratitude and fear to coexist. Ultimately, we can utilize gratitude to relax tension, redirect negative energy and refine our thoughts.

How to:  The Gratitude Hack

Reflect

Daily reflection is a great way to slow down and begin a gratitude practice.  At the end of each day, play back some of the key moments in your mind. As you reflect on your day, identify 1-2 things that brought you joy.

Write

Our mind craves the concrete when it comes to change.  Putting your thoughts to paper helps to solidify an experience.  Grab a journal, and write down the things you’ve identified that brought joy that day.

Practice

The key to shifting our moods, is regular practice.  In order to fully access and enjoy the benefits of the gratitude hack, you must practice it daily. Make a cup of tea, sit down in your favourite spot at home, and make this a nightly ritual.
